What is Crisis?

  • Crisis is a time of intense trouble, danger or difficulty.
  • In relation to mental health, crisis is when an individual feels like they cannot cope or fear losing control.
  • Difficulties with mental health and addiction can occasionally lead to crisis.
  • A crisis can manifest in severe psychological and emotional distress.
  • The most extreme form of crisis are thoughts or intentions to end one’s life.
  • In a situation where there is a crisis, the person’s safety is the most important factor.

While crisis might be rare, it is still important to recognise when a crisis is happening and what to do about it.
